According to the Amtrak website, there is not a direct train route from San Francisco to Shreveport, LA. There also are no train stations in San Francisco or Shreveport, so you would have to rely on bus transfers at both locations. The closest train station to San Francisco is in Emeryville, CA. You may take a bus from several locations within San Francisco and transfer to the train station. From Emeryville you would travel on the Coast Starlight to Los Angeles, CA where you would transfer to the Texas Eagle. This train would take you all the way to the eastern border of Texas where you would have to transfer back to a bus and take that into Shreveport, LA. This route is outlined on the Amtrak "Interactive Route Atlas."
You can access the interactive route atlas at the link given below. You may find the route I outlined above by typing San Francisco into the "Departs:" box and Shreveport into the "Arrives:" box and clicking on "Go." Please note that San Francisco has several stations listed, so select the one closet to you.
To find fares and actual schedules you will have to go the Amtrak website at the link below and click on "Tickets" or "Schedules".
I did notice that Amtrak does not offer this route daily, so this may affect your travel.
A handy website I found is called "Route Friend." This website allows you to type your departure and arrival locations as well as dates and it outlines possible routes, please note that this website will suggest Greyhound (bus) routes as well. When I searched for San Francisco to Shreveport, several listed the bus as mode of transportation from California all the way to Louisiana.
Amtrak is the premier public train provider in the United States. The information contained on its website should be correct. While Route Friend relies on other websites for information, the results seemed accurate. I would only use it as a guide and book actual tickets through Amtrak.
If you need more help, remember your public library can answer this type of question and more, just ask for the reference desk. See the link given below to find your nearest public library. Nearby college and universiity libraries are generally helpful as well.
