If you are referring to a communication port, then you can find the program that uses the port and shut it down. You can look under services and find the program and force it to

stop/disable.

Zone alarm firewall, has a great program watcher. This will see all the programs and it will allow you to stop them from connection the the internet, yes even windows programs.

You can stop windows from phoning home.

What is Component Object Model in VB?

Component Object Model (COM) is a binary-interface standard for software components introduced by Microsoft in 1993. It is used to enable interprocess communication and dynamic object creation in a large range of programming languages. COM is the basis for several other Microsoft technologies and frameworks, including OLE, OLE Automation, ActiveX, COM+, DCOM, the Windows shell, DirectX, and Windows Runtime.

What make a file executable?

This depends upon the operating system. In Windows, the operating system determines if a file is executable by the file extension. There are three windows executable file extensions that I know of: .exe, .com and .scr .com is the simplest executable file: it's contents are simply copied into memory and execution begins at the beginning of the file in memory. Because of this simplicity, .com files may be no larger than a little under 64KiB, and they can only be loaded into memory at address 0x0100. .exe files are more complicated: they are split up into multiple segments. The file contains a header, several tables, a .text section which contains the actual executable instructions, a .data section which contains any static or global data, and more. If the file does not match a specific structure, then the operating system will refuse to execute the file. Thus, in Windows, in order for a file to be executable, it must have the proper file extension, and it must match a specific format for that file extension.

MS-DOS command to change com port?

Use the "change port" command (without the quotes, of course) to change the port you're deciding to map to somewhere else. First, to display the current com port mappings, you can use change port / query Then, to change a port, type change [old com port]=[new com port] NOTE: Change the text in the brackets to the actual com port, making sure to use keyword "COM," again without the quotes, and in the example, without the brackets Here's an example: change port COM2=COM4 Finally, to delete a COM port listing, use the following format: change port /d [COM PORT] Here's an example of deleting a COM port listing: change port /d COM8 Hope this helps!

Where is the location of the COM port?

Your computer might not necessarily have a com port at all. A com port is just an older style serial port. USB ports have replaced com ports for the most part. If you have any com ports, they would be on the back of the computer. They would be male (pins sticking out), and have 9 or 25 pins. If there is a 25-pin female D-socket, that would be a parallel port.
