The term 'Underground Railroad' for battered women means there is a retreat for battered women and their children to go too to be protected; given support and free legal counsel. In Michigan for years there was no retreat for battered women or children to go and a 'safe house' was inspired to house well over 750 women during the 1980's and over 1,000 children.
