It depends on your Scottish Terrier. Mine has fun with Yorkshire Terriers, Jack Russel Terriers, and Kerin Terriers. My friend's Sottie is very shy and doesn't enjoy being around other dogs.

Sometimes. . . they bark a lot at other dogs.

A Scottish Terrier is an 'earth dog' from Scotland. They are an AKC registered breed that come in three main colors; Black, Brindle and Wheaten.

They NEVER, EVER, EVER COME IN WHITE! The white variety was segregated out of the breed around 1837 and is now known as the West Highland White Terrier.

They are low to the ground with a small "carrot" like tail held erect when alert, with a wire double coat, and erect, pointed ears. They are long in the muzzle and have a little 'stop' (between the bridge of the nose and brow). They should have dark-colored, deep-set eyes, and be of over-all 'well balanced' appearance.

The Scottish Terrier was bread to dig and kill vermin, including badgers- quite a feat for a dog that weighs less than 28 lbs! Although small, they are every bit a big dog in personality and disposition. They are not known to be noisy or 'yappy' like other smaller breeds, and have earned the nickname, "Little Diehards".

Fun Fact: Although known for their black coat, the original color of the breed is brindle! There are NO rare colors for the breed.

Yes and no, scotties were bred to hunt small game so they do have a natural prey drive. If raised PROPERLY with a cat they will be best of friends, they also will learn quick to respect the cat and at the very least leave it alone with 5 scotties we have one that LOVES "her" cat the others will just let him do his own thing.

The Scottish Terrier was originally bred to dig into the ground to hunt and kill vermin on farms in Scotland. Today, the Scottie is merely bred as a companion animal in many countries of the world, including the U.S. and its native country, the U.K.

They can lose interest very easy, keep them entertained and only train them for short periods of time ~ 10-15mins a day.

Male Scottish terriers seem to lose interest faster ;)

Which terrier was created first?

Most terrier breeds were developed in Great Britain and Ireland. They were used to control rats, rabbits, and foxes both over and under the ground. Some larger terriers were also used to hunt badgers. In fact, the word terrier comes from the Middle French terre, derived from the Latin terra, meaning earth. Terrier is also the modern french for "burrow". The Kerry Blue Terrier and Airedale, however, are particularly noted for tackling river rats and otters in deep water. Different localities raised terriers suited to their hunting or vermin control needs. Terriers were crossed with hunting dogs, fighting dogs, and other terriers.
