There are a number of ways in which global warming might lead to widespread deaths. For a start, the melting icecaps and glaciers will cause a rise in sea level which will lead to deaths from drowning. This will also cause loss of arable land, leading to food shortages and death through starvation.
Warmer temperatures and higher rainfall (hence more marshland) is likely to mean that tropical insects such as mosquitos can extend their range, bringing malaria to parts of the world where it has been rare or unknown.
More extreme weather types could lead to more natural disasters like huricanes and flooding due to torrential rain.
Finally - and most alarmingly - food shortages and loss of national territories could lead to conflict with many people being killed in wars as countries try to extend their borders by invading neighbouring countries in an effort to increase arable land for crop production.
