Foil and Saber both have rules of right of way which makes patterns fairly common. Epee does not have right of way rules and thus has fewer predictable patterns. However there are only so many reasonable ways to attack and defend, therefore there are patterns in Fencing but it is simply because of convenience not because it is required.
