At this time there is no requirement, i.e. licensing or certification, in the state of Pennsylvania for a person giving any kind of massage, including chair massage. However, in October of 2008 the governor signed a bill into law which will require anyone giving any kind of massage (bodywork) to have a license by October 2010. The requirements have not yet be completed by the new board of licensing but it is believed that a basic requirement will including having at least 500, maybe 600, hours of in-class training.
In PA you are required to carry at least liability coverage. This is the law in most states.
