Meat on all Fridays of the year. ---- A Catholic Answer (Catholics in union with the Pope) Before 1965, Catholics of the requisite age were required to abstain from meat on all Fridays of the year. By 1970 this requirement was no longer in force, and became instead a recommendation that individual Catholics observe this form of penance or select some other form that they may find to be more suitable.
You can't eat meat on Good Friday, but you only eat fish instead. But some say This is the kind of nonsense that makes Protestants laugh at Catholics. The Bible CLEARLY says that we are free to fast or not fast, eat meat or not eat meat, as we please. IT CLEARLY says that these kinds of "religious practices" are worthless and that God sees "good works" as nothing but "filthy rags." Follow Jesus. Give Him your heart. That's all that counts. These kinds of questions reflect the kind of dead useless "religiosity" that Jesus came to ABOLISH!
Lord Baltimore wanted Maryland to be a sanctuary for disenfranchised Roman Catholics. Roman and Orthodox Catholicism was not popular in the American colonies.
For centuries, Catholics abstained from eating meat on Friday, as a form of penance. It became the custom to only eat fish. These days, while some traditional Catholics do still follow this custom, it is generally incorporated into part of the Lenten observance, and it also remains popular with older Catholics. But many non-religious Catholics no longer observe this custom as much. Eastern Rite Christians (Greek and Syrian Orthodox, for example) also follow the custom of not eating meat on Friday, and many substitute fish. As for other Christians, many Southern Baptists abstain from meat during Lent, and specifically on Good Friday. Other more moderate denominations such as Unitarians or Congregationalists seem to eat whatever they would normally eat on Fridays. In other words, there is no longer one official set of dietary rules that applies to every denomination.

Well no, you cant but you can think of something before you go to bed.
Catholics are allowed to eat anything they want believe it or not. They are personally not deprived of anything. Except in Lent, some decide to sacrifice something to show their love for Jesus and represent how he fasted for 40 days in the desert. And so some give up something they like to eat, which is usually meat to adults, but it can be anything or any type of food such as sweets and stuff.

Roman Catholics may not eat meat during a day of fast (Ash Wednesday, the Fridays of Lent, etc.) Otherwise, Catholics have no dietary restrictions.
The current post-Vatican II regulation is that Catholics must not eat for one hour before receiving Holy Communion. Traditional Catholics do not eat for three hours.
