Many police K-9's can be trained to detect firearms. K-9's trained in Patrol work, consisting of tracking, trailing, handler protection, and apprehensions (bite work), could even be trained in article searches (finding handguns or weapons, etc). Also, explosive detection K-9's could be used to find firearms, if they were recently fired or were in contact with explosive powder used in the making of bullets.

Good luck.

If a police officer is hurt what does their dog do?

It depends on the situation, but all the canines that I have worked with and trained with, all are trained in what is called "Handler Protection" this is where is the handler is in a fight his canine does not need a command, but will try and defend the police officer from others. This is a great thing, the only time that this training has hinderd, is when the canine protects their handler from anyone, even someone trying to render aid.

Yes, they can. If the 'buy' is done under controlled circumstances the only thing that is being established is the criminality of the seller, NOT the buyer.

Does a bad check conviction disqualify you from ever becoming a police officer?

no necessarily, but it surely does show that the person is irresponsible and that is a trait that is not looked highly upon. It also shows that the person is not trustworthy. An untrustworth police officer is the worst thing you can have.

How do you become a police dog handler?

You don't need any GCSE's to become a police officer, but there are some that may help you more than others to be an eligible candidate for the role. Firstly, the obvious English, Maths and Science are always helpful. Secondly, languages are really good to have, so like I took Welsh and Spanish, you may have different ones like French or German or something. If you're choosing your GCSE's now, you should go for something you enjoy doing to break it up a little, or you might want to choose something that sounds applicable to the work of a police officer, like Economics or something

What is sexier fireman or police officer?

"Sexier" is the person who loves you and shares your bed with you, not some fantasy thing you dreamed up, or some pre-conceived idea of what a police officer or fireman/woman should be. Fantasies are fine, and fun, but share them with the one beside you.

Who do you report to if you know a felon who owns a firearm?

In general, you should call the police or sheriff (who ever it is that has jurisdiction were you live) and get an officer to take a report - if you don't want to go in and file one. With the police report in hand, the officer will decide what action to take. You will be asked how you know the individual, how you know he is a felon, how you know he has a weapon, and all that. A felon having a firearm is serious issue, and serious and probing questions will be asked to pursue the investigation and assist the officer in deciding what to do next. You may feel a bit like you are the suspect, but if you are sure and you believe you are doing "the right thing" by reporting it, stand up and make your statement. And recall what Joe Friday was always saying. "Just the facts, Ma'am." Just give the facts. No opinions are required unless asked for. Let the officer give the opinions - like what to do once he has your report. Review the situation in your mind and then make the decision whether or not to make the call. You have the duty to "do the right thing" here as a citizen, but it is up to you what you consider is the "right thing" in this situation. It's that simple.
