If your neighbor is intentionally entering your property without your consent then he is trespassing. He really has no business prowling around your property during the night. If you are on friendly terms with him otherwise you might try calling out to him when you see him trespassing during the night with a loud, "Ray, can I help you? Is there something wrong?" Then when you have his attention you might add that he startled you; that you thought he was a prowler and almost called the police. He may have a reason for his nocturnal visits. It would also be a good time to tell him you would rather he not wander around in your yard during the night; that it causes unnecessary anxiety for your family. Alternatively you could just call the police and report a prowler. Tell the police you think the prowler has been on your property at night before and you are very frightened. They can then tell him to stay in his own yard at night.
