There is a semi autonomus region in Northern Iraq with that name but the other areas which militants refer to as 'Kurdistan' belong to Turkey, Iran and Syria. The militants are in a stick and stone 'struggle' against the armies of these countries. Nothing big but a big inconveniance as noone wants to go somewhere where they may or may not be terrorists lurking.

Kurdistan is a region and not a country. It is spread across several countries such as Iran, Iraq, Turkey, and Syria, with a Kurdish population sharing a common heritage. Calls for an independent Kurdish state have been ongoing for decades, but currently, there is no internationally recognized country called Kurdistan.
