Why the boot partition and the system partition cannot be deleted?

On MS platforms, the system partition is used to hold the boot files. The boot partition holds all the windows operating system files. Leave it to Microsuck to mis-lable the partition hiearchy. The system partition holds what is loaded and executed first after the computer runs through its preliminary BIOS boot sequence. It tells the computer where to start loading the operating system from; the boot partition. The boot partition is where all the program files (thousands of them) needed by the operating system are stored. If the system partition is deleted; the computer will not find the operating system. If the boot partition is deleted, again; the computer will not find the operating system.

Which partition is the bootable partition that startup BIOS turns to when searching for an operating system to star up?

sda1 is normally the one. It indicates the first disk's first patrition. if you have more than one disk or you put the system into, for example, the second disk's first patrition. Then the mbr will guide it to boot from sdb1.

Windows2000XP is installed using a system partition and a boot partition. which partition must be the active partition of the harddrive?

In a Windws PC, a sysem partition contains hardware level details of the hard disk and other partitions. It contains files that tell the Bios where to look for the boot loader, hence all disks must always have a system partition.A boot partition is any bootable partition in your hard drive that contains an Operating system or a bootable utility. The active Prtition in your case is the partition that contains the boot loader (Most cases the partition that contains the first installation of windows) inyour case windows 2000.This s also the System Partition not the boot partition

You would like to install windows xp and windows 2000 professional on one hard disk how to install and which one should be first installed you have a 1000Mhz celeron system with 256 MB ram 40 GB hard?

You must partiton your hard drive so you have two partitons(you MUST have the partition space be at LEAST the minimum requirement for the specific Operating System being installed in that partition). Once you partition your hard drive you can then install the two operating systems(one operating system per partition). Its recommended that you install the older OS before the latest OS.

How do you disable a drive partition in Windows 98?

You can not disable a partition in Windows 98 but you can remove it(everything on the partition will be lost if not saved beforehand on a cdr-rw or another hard drive). Boot up with a windows 98 floppy with th Operating System on it and the the Fdisk.exe file on it. At the "A" prompt, type "fdisk" and press enter. When the fdisk screen pops up, first be sure which partition you want to delete (D,E etc)so you don't delete the partition with your operating system on it (the "C" drive). Once you have determined which partition is to be deleted, follow the onscreen instructions to remove the correct one. When finished, close out the program and reboot the system and the partition should be gone.

What is fixed partition memory?

The first attempt to allow for multiprogramming used fixed partitions (also called static partitions) within the main memory-one partition for each job. Because the size of each partition was designated when the system was powered on, each partition could only be reconfigured when the computer system was shut down, reconfigured, and restarted. Thus, once the system was in operation the partition sizes remained static.

What must you do first when you setup a new hard drive for the first time?

Partition and format the drive. However, if you will be installing an operating system onto this hard drive, the install routine of most modern operating systems will perform the partitioning and formatting automatically.

How do you handle the multiple operating system such as vista and ubuntu?

You have to install both operating systems to get a 'dual boot' system. I would suggest installing vista first, then installing ubuntu. Doing it the other way around will mean that the ubuntu installation will not be recognized after you install Vista, so do the Vista install first. The Ubuntu Grub loader will be able to recognize the Vista partition and should present you with a menu when you boot the machine as to which operating system you want to use.The easiest approach to this would be to install Vista on one partition and ubuntu on a different partition of your hard drive.
