The Nuremberg Laws, which removed most Jewish Rights, were passed in Germany in 1935. These retracted Jews' citizenship among many other rights violations. However, the actual attacks and deportations of Jews en masse began after Kristallnacht in November of 1938.
Jewish New Year
As I write this, it is September 2011. The Jewish year of 5772 will begin in a few days.
The Jewish calendar puts the current year at 5770, counted since creation.
There are about 250,000 Jews in Germany many in the Berlin area. There are another 90,000 people of Jewish ancestry from Russia. Some of this group is secular, and actively trying to become assimilated Germans, but most still consider themselves as Jews. The number of Jewish refugees from the former USSR is now diminishing, but it still adds thousands of new Jews to Germany every year.
They attend synagogue and visit with friends and family.

The barring of the Jewish students from schooling in Germany was one of the event that happened in the year James Meredith was born.
The key year was 1939, not 1935. In January 1939 Jews in Germany were ordered to sell their businesses to 'Aryans' at 10% of their estimated value.

People were encouraged not to shop in Jewish stores in Germany under Adolf Hitler's rule in the 1930's. No one really knows what drove Hitler against the Jews in the first place, but it is known however that Germany was suffering In an economic depression at the time and Hitler blamed this depression on the Jews, telling the Germans that Jews were terrible beings who were controlling the banks of Germany and therefore the cause of their economic downfall. This obviously is not true, but it became the beliefs of many naïve Germans in that time period. The Nuremberg Laws that explicitly led the prohibition of Gentile patronage of Jewish shops were passed in 1935.
