Since our body is regulated by our osmolality such as Sodium (Na+) to name one, any imbalance in water will directly affect sodium's balance. What really results on the physiological level is called hypernatremia (excess sodium in the blood). Normal sodium balance in the blood is 135-145 so any increase in water loss will cause that number to rise. On the contrast, any increase in water reabsorption will cause that number to go down. So the affects are hypernatremia/dehydration secondary to alcohol intoxication
