BRAHMAN - THE SUPREME HINDU GOD:

Brahman is the supreme Hindu god, guiding and binding force of Hinduism.

It is the commander of the seven basic gods of Hinduism, master of the Varnas and time.

1. The seven Hindu gods:

The seven gods are,

1. Indra - god of dreaming -3

2. Shakti - god of illusion -2

3. Brahma - god of creativity -1

4. Vishnu - god of stabilization -1+1 = 0 Default Hindu god

5. Shiva - god of determination +1

6. Shani - god of status alteration +2

7. Yama - god of compulsion +3

Brahman -3-2-1+0+1+2+3=0

The numbers indicate the power of the gods and (-) indicates retardation of activities.

Greater the power lesser the control. Therefore, Indra and Yama are not worshiped.

Brahman is the absolute preserver and thus would give eternal bliss.

2. The Varnas:

There are four Varnas in Hinduism.

They are,

1. Brahmana Varna

2. Kshatriya Varna

3. Vaishya Varna

4. Shudra Varna

Brahmana Varna gives no freedom at all but most efficient. Shudra Varna gives maximum freedom but is least efficient.

3. Time:

Brahman also enables us to have four different kinds of time

1. Eternal

2. Natural

3. Virtual

4. Transient

Brahman encourages us to make all activities eternal.

BRAHMAN - AS SUPREME GOD:

Under the most chaotic conditions Brahman would make a Hindu to

1. Worship Yama for activities and Indra for rest

2. Use Shudra Varna

3. Make all activities transient.

Under ideal conditions it would make him to be one with itself.

Though, undoubtedly the best god to use, no one can use Brahman in its fullest form.

KRISHNA - THE SUPREME GOD OF ORDINARY HINDUS:

Krishna is the eighth incarnation of Vishnu. Vishnu is the preserver and thus has a positive attitude and a negative attitude. Krishna symbolizes the positive attitude of Vishnu and therefore enables us to grow eternally. It is for this reason that he is the most popular Hindu god in the west.

Use of single god would be opposed by Brahman. Therefore, Krishna is believed to be Brahman itself. For the same reason, Shiva too is considered as the supreme Hindu god.

Therefore, Krishna, as the supreme Hindu god, would give us none of the benefits Brahman would give.

Thus,

1. Krishna is acceptable as supreme god to materialistic modern people

2. Hindus, who want to be rational, have absolute freedom and be masters of their fate, would consider none other than Brahman as the supreme Hindu god.

Who is Krsna and in what ways have devotees conceived of and related to him?

Krsna, or Krishna is GOD (the Supreme Personality of Godhead)-- the source of all that exists; the cause of all that is; was; or ever will be. Devotees generally accept Krishna/God as personal, with a conceivable form. It is hard to love an abstract, impersonal concept. You can express devotion in various ways (the following list is from Krishna.com)-- * Devotees in the mood of neutrality witness and support Krishna's pastimes by their presence as plants, animals, streams, and so on, as well as normally inanimate objects like houses-all of which are fully conscious in Goloka. (Krishna's eternal home) * Devotees in the service mood run errands for Krishna, pack His lunch, wash His clothes, and perform other demonstrations of love for Him as the moment indicates. * Devotees in the fraternal mood serve Krishna by being His friends. They are sometimes boastful, considering themselves equal to Krishna. In His company, they herd cows and enjoy games in the beautiful country setting. * Devotees in the parental mood see themselves as Krishna's provider and protector. Krishna behaves with them like a dependent child. His mother cuddles Him, carefully prepares His meals, and thinks only of His protection. His father sees that He has all the comforts of a normal home. * Devotees in the conjugal, or romantic, mood offer service as Krishna's girlfriends, relating with Him in the intimacy of lover and beloved.
