What would happen if you use a single cylinder inplace of 3 cylinders in an ic engine?

Logically the power delivered by the engine will reduce. I do not have an exact technical idea of reducing the number of cylinders in ic engine.

How much compression does a stock 350 small block have?

There are a lot of variables when checking compression...basically the idea is to have all cylinders within 15 lbs of each other. Double check your readings.

How can you tell if your car has a cracked head?

There are several ways to tell if your vehicle has a cracked head. Common symptom of a crack on the side of the head is that after the vehicle warms up it will spray oil all over the inside of your engine compartment. If the crack is on top of the head under the valve cover it may be harder to notice. You will lose compression on one ( or possibly two ) of the cylinders so the engine will be sluggish and not make it up a hill or maybe out of your driveway ( again after the engine is hot ). You won't see the oil leaking because it will be coming out under your valve cover. If the heads are steel ( most modern cars use aluminum), taking the head to a machine shop to be milled is a good idea. The steal becomes magnetized when it is milled and metal shavings will stick to any crack. Usually a crack on the top of a head occurs between two exhaust valves that someone engineered to be next to each other. If a crack occurs on the bottom of a head you could end up with water in your oil. The oil on your dipstick will be milky white. This is also indicative of a failed head gasket. If there is a crack between two cylinders ( unlikely but not impossible) you will be losing compression in those two cylinders. Noticing the loss of power after your engine is hot compared to when it is cold is one clue. Remember this condition could be symptomatic of other problems. If you compression test your cylinders, when the engine is cold of course, and find no problem but still lose compression once the engine is hot you can eliminate a stuck valve as the cause.

1.6 liters refers to a cars engine?

Yes, it refers to the swept volume, of the cylinders in an engine. That is also the same as a 1600 cc engine. It gives an idea of the size of the engine and the potential to do work. In the USA the same method is used, but Cubic Inches are used instead of the metric system. It is only a baseline idea of the power of an engine. This can be hugely altered by strapping on turbo chargers, fuel injection systems and changing valve design and lift.

How can you set the timing on a 1997 Toyota Tercel It won't start. It is getting fire but air is blowing out the intake. We have fuel. I think it jumped time and need to know what 2 do. Thanks?

If the timing belt has jumped you will need to replace it. A quick compression test will give you a good idea what's going on. Mark each spark plug wire so that you can get them back where they were. A piece of tape on clean wires or even a wire marker is a good idea. Next, pull all spark plugs and screw a compression gauge into one of the spark plug holes. Have an assistant crank the engine for about 5 seconds, then record the compression. Do that for each cylinder. Compression should be even (within a few PSI) across all cylinders and it should be above 100 PSI. If your compression is well below that and/or is very uneven, you probably have a slipped timing belt. Once the timing belt is replaced, the ignition timing should go back to normal.

What can cause a 1998 Plymouth Neon to run rough and want to stall?

It would take too many guesses to figure out what is wrong with your car. Take it over to a parts store and see if they will check the codes for you. Some will do it for you at no charge. But then, use them for all your parts. After you`ve checked the ignition coil it may be a good idea to check the compression on all four cylinders because if one is low the engine will miss and run rough. You can add a can of an oil additive to improve compression sold at a parts store, this may help and cost less than $10.

Why does the Ford Ranger have a loss of power?

Loss of power could be caused by many things. The engine could have a fuel pressure issue, or there could be low engine compression among many things. A check of computer codes may give an idea of where to start troubleshooting.

Should you have low compression after a head gasket change?

No, quite the opposite- the idea of gaskets is to ensure that an engine gives HIGH compression. If your car has just had a cylinder head gasket change and you are STILL getting low compression, then this suggests that the problem lies with the cylinder head itself- it may be cracked. Unfortunately there's no effective repair for this, the only solution is to get a new cylinder head I'm afraid.

3.8 motor cranks but won't start?

An engine needs three things to start: 1. fuel; the engine must have the proper amount of fuel delivered to the cylinders. 2. ignition; the engine must have an adequately strong spark at the spark plugs, delivered at the right time. 3. compression; an air/fuel mixture must be drawn into the cylinders then compressed as the piston rises to the top of the compression cycle. If all three conditions are met as the engine is turned (either by the starter or by "push start") the engine MUST run. To discover why the engine won't start, you need to find out which of the above is not taking place or not taking place properly. Insufficient or too much fuel can certainly cause an engine to not start. A non-existant weak or improperly timed ignition spark can certainly cause an engine to not start. Low on non-existant compression cancertainly cause an engine to not start. If you suspect that there is no or insufficient fuel, I always recommend that people try a little starting fluid. One common problem this time of year is "condensate" in the fuel line. If a few drops of water condensate builds up in a line, then the line freezes, no fuel will get past and your engine won't start. It's always a good idea to use a can of fuel line de-icer once or twice through the winter. Typically, if there is a problem with the ignition system, modern automobile computers will report a "fault" by flashing the "check engine" light. If that's going on, use a code scanner to find out what's wrong. All you can do is start to narrow down the problem, isolating different "sub-systems" to see what's keeping the engine from running.

What is the meaning of 220 cc?

CC stands for cubic centimeters. This number gives you an idea of how large and powerful the engine will be based on the capacity or amount of air/fuel mixture which can fill a piston for combustion. A 220 CC engine can compress up to 220 cubic centimeters in all cylinders at one time.

Why doesn't my RC car restart when engine is hot?

What is probably happening is the chamber that surrounds your piston has expanded and you do not have the compression needed to start your engine. Make sure that you roll your piston to BDC (bottom dead center) everytime your vehicle stops. This will prevent your piston sleeve from widening towards the upper portion which in turns cause your engine to loose compression. You may be able to start your engine if you roll your piston to the bottom of the sleeve by turning your flywheel. I would also be a good idea to make a mark (preferably a scratch) on your flywheel to indicate where BDC is.

Knocking noise in the engine of your 82 Mazda 323 low compression poor idle anyone any idea what could be wrong?

knocking is probably a rocker but might be a rod, sounds like its time for a master rebuild kit First check if the motor pulley. Located at the lowest part of the engine, when the v-belt runs. check if this is not loose. For poor compression, check timing on the car an a possiblilty for new spark plugs
