Your system has 2 "blend doors". They blend the hot/cold air for the right temperature. For whatever reason, one of your blend doors is not operating properly. Two likely possibilities: 1. The hinge on the blend door is broken so the door can't move
2. The actuator that powers the door is shot
3. (least likely) Your control unit (or wiring) is faulty. A dealer repair on this may be spendy. To get to the blend door they need to drop the steering column and remove the entire dash.
There may be several reasons why the air only blows out the front vents and not on the floor or the defrost on the 2003 Dodge Ram. The fuses may be blown, or the heating coil is not working correctly.
This is the same on all cars. When the air flow is OFF in a section, the it blows stronger to the other vents. In this case the ones for the windshield. This makes defrosting quicker so you can start driving safely sooner.
It is possible, but not likely for a transmission fluid leak from the speed sensors.
If it blows only out the defroster vents : then check for Vaccume leak Rick ASE L-1 Master TransMichigan.com
