Aesop

(Edited)

Aesop's fables and the Panchatantra - both share many common fables.

It is commonly believed (and debated) that Aesop's fables and fable in the Panchatantra must have originated from a common source, which is assumed to be older oral traditions of Indian origin (areas in modern day Pakistan).

Aesop and Vishnu Sharma (composer of Panchatantra) lived in entirely different times.

As for influence, the Panchatantra is the most circulated book of all times, apart from The Bible. It is the most translated piece of literature, and the oldest surviving of Indian fables.

The answer to this question, thus, is 'the entire world'!

Some of the oldest literary works were later found to have been translations or adaptations of the Panchatantra. Thus, 'literature' of many civilizations have grown around the work of Panchatantra!

PS:

References to the tales of Panchatantra is found in Swami Vivekananda's lectures at the World Parliament of Religions, Chicago.

A. W. Ryder translated it from Sanskrit in 1925, but like all fables, have no author assigned to it.
