Nothing is wrong with it! Usually, when a guy wants to be noticed (especially by the person he likes), he'll try to impress people. He also wants to be known as "cool". This stuff also isn't knew. Medieval knights used to put their capes on mud so a lady wouldn't have to step in it. i know it sounds odd, but its just a way of showing courtesy and kindness to those who should get it, like women.
