I would say, just be honest, dude! Either tell him u like the same girl and get it over with, or make hints to him that u like the same girl. It's not fair to u or him, just keeping it inside like that. That way, it's fair game! ;)
You should definetly let him know otherwise latter when he finds out hes going to feel betrayed. Sometimes guy to guy getting girls is a competition, and if you both like the same girl you have just as much right to a shot at her as he does.
