In April 13, 1325 when the Mexica (Me-she-ca) people settled some swampy islands within the Lake Texcoco, naming it as Mexico-Tenochtitlan. It is not known how many people conformed this first settlement, but it eventually had a population of more than 200,000 by the time first contact with Europeans was made in 1519.
