When Michael Card played at the Tabernacle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Deseret News reported that he had said the LDS Church and Evangelical Christianity did not oppose each other but were 'like the two ends of a long thread'. A small controversy erupted, and many Protestant and Evangelical Christians were offended because they see the LDS Church as a non-Christian cult. While the news reporter admitted this wasn't a direct quote and that he may have misinterpreted Card's actual statement, Michael Card did not deny the quote or it's meaning in a formal apology written to his Protestant and Evangelical fans.
