How stable is North Korea's economy?

North Korea practices a trade policy of autarky, which is defined as being completely self-sufficient, as a country, in the production of goods and services. North Korea is a perfect example of why attempting autarky in a modern economy is completely nonsensical. No country can provide all of the types of raw materials and foodstuffs necessary to sustain the levels of population and industrial production prevalent in any modern society. As a result of autarky, the country remains in grinding poverty. As a result of autarky, North Korea's economy is incredibly stable, meaning that it does not have large rises or falls. Rises and falls in an economy usually come from investment, speculation, international trade spikes, fads, and entrepreneurship. Since North Korea has none of these things, its economy does not fluctuate. However, this stability is undesirable since it is consistent poverty with no chance for improvement.

What is soceity?

Society" -- especially modern/industrial, or lately, postmodern society (as opposed to pre-modern society, which is usually the province of anthropologists) -- is the playing field of sociologists and of sociology. There are several conceptions of the term "society". In general terms, we think of "society" as a grouping of human beings bound by some criteria -- race, ethnicity, culture, etc. Whatever the criteria may be, the constant factor is the presence of human beings. Sociologists (and other guys) can play around with this general understanding, maybe add some more limiting factors or definitions that suit their purposes.

How can sociology contribute to an understanding of the family in a modern industrial society?

There is a branch of sociology known as -"Urban Sociology".Here we study the effects of urbanization on individuals and major social institutions such as marriage and family. There has been a huge change in the basic value system of an individual in this modern industrial society, as a result of which certain basic structures of society(such as family) have changed.Foe eg. previously importance was given to a joint family , where the source of income was common(may be agriculture) and the family members used to stay together as one unit sharing sometimes a common kitchen. But due to the demands of industrialization, people have moved from their native land in search of a job and have started to live in much smaller nuclear units with ,sometimes, both the parents working. So, by studying minutely the changes of urbanization in Urban Sociology, we can understand the structure of a modern family in today's society.

An agrarian society is a society in which the majority of the economy and jobs directly involve agriculture production compared to an industrial society in which the majority of jobs and economic activity involve manufacturing, financing, or other non-agriculture related jobs (like mining). Colonial America and the Confederate States of America were semi-agrarian societies compared to the North during the American Civil War and modern America.
