Early members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) were often hunted by mobs. There were several occasions of men being dragged from their homes and beaten, tarred, and feathered. On other occassions mobs began burning the homes and businesses of Mormons while they were still inside, causing the Mormons to flee and loose everything they had. In the southern United States, Mormon missionaries faced the same hatred and violence that African Americans faced, and many were hung from trees and killed.
This violence toward the Mormons dwindled and died in the early 1900's. Today, Church members aren't really hunted, and many are respected members of society. Church buildings occassionaly face vandalism and Church members face discrimination and dislike, but there is very little violence.
