the Murray mowers that iv'e seen have Briggs engines in them. go to www.briggsandstratton.com and call the customer service number with the engine model and serial number. they can give you the initial settings for the high and low speed adjustments. you can probably find a tune-up manual in the library, if you're that handy. be sure there is no crap in the carb (water, debris, shallac), because if nobody has been fooling with it, that is likely the source of the problem.
