Muscles within the brachium are responsible for the extension of the elbow. These muscles also work for the flexing of the arm as well.
Triceps brachii, aided by anconeus
Tricep brachii is responsible for extension (straightening) of the arm at the elbow. There are 3 heads of the Tricep; the long, lateral and medial heads. The Tricep is an antagonist of the bicep and brachialis muscles of the upper arm, which both assist in flexion at the elbow joint.
The muscle has to have origin and insertion below the elbow. There is only one such muscle. It is called as pronator quadtatus.
Extension of the arm at the shoulder is due to:Latissimus DorsiPosterior fibers of the DeltoidTeres MajorExtension of the elbow joint is almost entirely due to triceps brachi
The triceps (all 3 heads) are fulfilling the role of agonist or prime mover during extension about the elbow. The anconeus muscle also acts in synergy with the triceps to contribute to elbow extension.
Extension of the forearm at the elbow joint is achieved almost entirely by the triceps brachii but extension of the arm, which actually takes place at the shoulder joint, is achieved by muscles on the back, such as the latissimus dorsi.
Tennis Elbow aka Epicondylitis, often occurs as a result of strenuous overuse of the muscles and tendons of the forearm and around the elbow joint. These Tendons attach to the lateral epicondyle of the humerus.
Triceps, Biceps, Brachialis and Brachioradialis are the main muscles. Link on elbow muscles (anatomy) below will help
Flexion and extension of the forearm.

the bicep contracts in a concentric contraction which means the muscles has shortened. remember muscles can only pull they can not push. also the bicep curl can be described as elbow flexion and when the weight is lowered is called elbow extention. hope it helps
