My 1998 Ford Contour dash light and tail lights don't work anymore brake and turns work fine fuses and bulbs do check out ok?

you may want to check your dimmer switch it may be the problem.
Possibly a bad headlight switch or connector. I just had a `93 Sable that the headlights would turn off when the right indicator was selected, and come back on as soon as it turned off. The signal/wiper switch was in rough shape (washers didn't work and wipers only worked on high) so I changed it out. headlights still shut off on right turn signal. Pulled the dash and found the headlight switch over heating, and connector melted. Replaced connector and switch. SOLVED...

If the bulbs are in fact working, then the next step would be to test the brake switch under the dash.
