Its either the flashy or one of the fuses. You can get replacements at Repco. They should cost $30 Aussy dolars max. The easiest way to get to the flashy is to remove the plastic panel to the right of the steering wheel. This should have the brightness adjustment for the speedo. Once this is removed test the indicators and it'll be the black box that viabroates and makes the clicking noise when the indicators are turned on.
If it is making a rapid clicking as compared to the slower intermittent clicking. One of your turn signal bulbs need to be replaced, normally it will only do this when the bulb is not working at all.

I had an intermittent problem like this with an 2004 Optima EX V6. I changed out the fuel pump and it seems to have corrected the problem, but being intermittent, only time will tell.

i had the same problem, sounded like the flasher was clicking. turns out it was the multi-function switch (turn signal/cruise ctrl/highbeam/washer switch). it was about 300 bucks to have replaced. couldn't do it myself.
