My Dad's car has sat for one year because he died I bought a new battery so I could start it upn occasion because it is not registered to be driven yet The battery is now dead but takes a boost.?

How often do you start it? Newer cars should be started at least once a week to maintain a charge on the battery (the computer drains a little all the time to save its memory). Have the battery fully charged, then try starting it once a week to see if it will work fine then. Good Luck!!!
