Often when a car won't start the solution is simple. The battery is only one small fraction of what aids to the spark of a motor. Before worrying over the entire engine you should first check the alternator, distributor, ignition, spark plugs and spark plug wires.

How do you reset a service engine soon light on 1993 Chevrolet Camaro?

You will need to have the engine scanned for codes and the repair made. Then you can have the check engine light reset. If the repair is not done then the light will come back on. You need to have it checked for codes. You can then diagnose and repair the cause. After repair, you can clear code with a scan tool, or by unhooking the battery. Unhooking the battery and reconnecting it is Not a good idea as it may cause a voltage spike and damage the computer the same as taking a battery cable off with the engine running and then reinstalling it to see if the alternator is working or not.

94 pontica booneville wouldn't start good alternator?

We need more info. The alternator is necessary, but the starter turns the flywheel to start the engine requiring a good battery. Does the battery turn the engine over, does the engine fire the spark plugs. Is there sufficient gasoline in the tank to start the car? Please give symptoms. Thanks.

Whats causing 1989 Suburban to not start Fast clicks when trying to start battery is good and connections are good even bought new starter and even tried different battery still just clicking?

Check the wire from the battery to the body and from the battery/body to the engine block.

Why engine will not start at temperatures in -20 deg?

Using the wrong weight engine oil for that climate, The battery/electrical system is not in good condition,

Why is engine not starting?

The engine needs good battery power, fuel, compression and spark to start and run. You are missing at least one of those.

How do you know whether its your battery or your alternator?

Start the engine and using a digital volt meter check the voltage at the battery with the engine running. If the alternator is good you will read from 13.5 to 15.5 volts DC.

How many cold cranking amps to start your 1993 Taurus at 0 degrees?

Almost any auto battery will start the engine if it is runnging good. But I would buy at least a 500cca battery.

How do you get a 1998 Honda Accord to start when battery is good but all it does when tring to start is make a small clicking sound?

It sounds like a bad cable connection at the battery/starter solenoid/ or the starter solenoid is bad. Check these areas. It could still be the battery. Check the voltage at the battery then try to start the engine. If the voltage drops below about 10 or 11 volts, the battery does not have enough of a charge. Try a battery charger for a while and see if you can get enough of a charge to start the engine. If the voltage is up when you try to start the engine, check the battery post connections. See if you have voltage THERE when you try to start it. Sometimes a corroded battery terminal will act the way you described. If that isn't it, check the connections to the starter. If you have good voltage to the starter when you try to start it, the starter is probably bad.

Why won't 2001 ranger start without a jump but will stay running?

Sounds like a dead battery. You need the battery to start the car, but once it is running the engine runs completely off of the alternator (which also recharges the battery if the battery is still good).

How do you recharge a battery in 1993 Chevy lumina?

The simplest way to recharge a GOOD battery is to simply jump start and drive the vehicle for twenty to thirty minutes. The above answer is not a good idea if the battery was so weak it will not start the engine. You may damage the alternator by using it to charge a dead battery. You should charge the battery with a battery charger. That is the safest way.

What if your 1990 Jeep Wrangler wont start?

The engine needs good battery power, fuel and spark to start and run. You are missing one of those.

What does it mean when your engine clicks when you try to start it?

It could very well mean your battery is dead. A good suggestion is to try another battery which is known to be good and/or carefully try to jumpstart the vehicle with jumper cables and another battery.
