Many women do prefer much older men to marry or have a friendly relationship with, and for many reasons; some of which are friendship, security, solidarity, experienced in life and love, financial gain when the older husband dies.
So long as you know your own mind, and understand that the relationship may or may not work. Also that the reason for your wanting such a relationship is based upon a genuine relationship of love and trust, or even just plain old friendship, then there is no reason why you should not form a relationship based on the above reasons.
Remember if you will, men who are twenty years older are usually set in their ways if they are between 40 and 60 years of age. You will have to make some allowances as he will with you.

I guess it depends if either you or him is older. If he is older, then 6 years isn't a lot. My best friends parents (who are divorced) well, her father is 11 years older then her mum.
