My iPad 3 makes static noise. Nothing worked until I turn on Mono Audio and slide to right speaker. Slide left increases static noise. Does this mean my left speaker is shot. How long will this work?

So what happened to the unit. Was it dropped, shocked, made wet?
It may just be the speaker but the presence of static points to an electronic issue.
Can you plug in headphones; is the sound OK or is the static still there,
Connect a Bluetooth speaker; is the sound OK or is the static still there,
If headphones and Bluetooth speaker still work, the electronics are working. If not you no longer have a quality music playing device but you still have a computer and gaming unit.
There is no telling how long it will stay this way till it gets worse, if it does.

Why does the right speaker on your stereo have static but the other one is fine?
There's a couple of things I can think of right away. First is loose wiring or wires touching each other (shorting), the other is that the speaker's blown. Then if your stereo has rotary speaker select switches or pushbutton switches for input, bass boost, etc., they may be dirty. Try working them back and forth several times to see if the static clears up. If not, you may just have a blown part in your pre-amp/amplifier which would require repair.

Wear on the amature bushings causes it to get a little out of alignment, which increases starting torque above the amount that the windings can provide. The shock caused by tapping the pump will move the amature enough for the windings to overcome static friction and start the pump.

I do prefer to touch something metal to see if it shocks me just to be safe. I have never damaged anything from this, but I do know that It can happen.
