If your car is relatively new (2000+) look for a "dome light" dial knob or switch. It may be located on the dash to the left of the steering when (and you may have to push on it to get it to pop out). This knob controls brightness of the dash gauges in some cars also. If you turn the knob all the way, and there is a "click", that means you have set the interior lights to stay on even when doors are closed. Try "unclicking" the knob.
