Robert Schumann, wrote some Sinfonies and lots of Piano pieces. Franz Schubert, famous for the Liederzyklen (Songs) wrote also chamber-music famous: Forellenquintett and the string quatuor "Der Tod und das Mädchen. Felix Mendelssohn, wrote some oratories, several Sinfonies and other orchestra works, chamber-music. Famous the Italienische Sinfonie and the violin-concert. Max Bruch, famous for his violinconcert and the "Schottische Fantasie" for violin and orchestra. Hugo Wolf also wrote songs (Ballads) for voice and piano Carl Maria von Weber wrote several operas. Most famous: "Der Freischütz" Albert Lortzing, wrote Operas: "Der Waffenschmied"
Of course, the first name as a lieder composer Is Franz Schubert. He wrote over 600 songs in a career significantly shorter than Mozart's. Of course he wrote glorious chamber music, solo piano music and symphonies, as well.
Although Robert Schumann also wrote extensively for solo piano. chamber music, orchestra, etc., his lieder is among his most extraordinary works. The piano writing in the so called accompaniment is remarkably inventive, taking this role to a new place.
Hugo Wolf wrote hundreds of songs, as well as 3 operas, and choral music in addition to rarely heard orchestral, chamber and piano music.
Richard Strauss seemed to be a number of composers is one body. The orchestral tone poems from his early career and the operas from the first half of the 20th century are what he is best known for. But he wrote about 200 songs, including his first and last works. His song style ranged from light-hearted songs for voice and piano major works for voice and large orchestra.
For someone so adept at huge scale orchestral and operatic writing, the songs are all touching, intimate and beautiful.
Gabriel Faure was to the French Art Song what Schubert was to German Lieder.
Faure's early songs gave only the occasional hint of what was to come later in his life. He went on to increasingly bend harmonic tradition without causing it to break, while weaving complex melodic adventures
I hope this gets it going!

Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Correction:
Johann Sebastian Bach was from the Baroque era, not the Classical.
Mozart was Austrian, not German.
Beethoven provided the transition between the Classical and Romantic Era, with some of his music being composed during the Classical era, and other music demonstrating the characteristics of the emerging Romantic era.
Other German Classical composers include J.S.Bach's sons Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Johann Christian Bach and Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach.
If you intend 'classical composers' to have the broader meaning of 'composers of serious music', you could add the following to your list (these are examples only): Brahms, Wagner, Mendelssohn (Felix and Fanny), Schumann (Robert and Clara). However, I don't think you (or anyone else) can say who are 'the 3 famous German classical composers'. The use of the word 'the' in the question implies that there are only three such, and of course there are many.
