Yes, each member of the UN is a member of the General Assembly.
As yet (mid-2010), there is no sovereign nation named "Palestine", so of course no nation by that name has as yet requested member status in the UN. When a nation with that name exists, and approaches the UN for membership, its request will be voted on by the current member nations, in the same fashion as each of them became members.
The US is a member of the UN. It is not a member of the EU
Montenegro was the 192nd UN member state. It became a member on June 28, 2006.
Like all other countries, Bulgaria feels well to be a member of the UN.
Mexico is a UN member state.
Switzerland has not joined in the UN and it is only an observer country. Appart from having 'co-headquarters' of the UN in Geneva Switzerland has been a member of most UN suborganisations (and their mainsponsor!) for a long time. The country has joined the UN in 2002.
No, Japan is not a permanent member of the UN Security Council, though it has hoped to be, as a member of the G4 nations.
India is a member of UN but it's not one of the 5 permanent members of the UN (which are Russia,US,UK,China & France).
