Jetways (possibly a trade name) or movable gangways, these futuristic (when they were first introduced, glass enclosed and weatherproof)enclosed boarding gates have been around since about l963, they were first introduced, it is claimed at la Guardia Airport. They, are power-operated and something like exstensible fire-ladders or telescopic walkways. Other than that I have no info. They are, it should be considered, technically a form of movable bridge-the retractile type, rare in full-size bridges but common with ship gangways, fire ladders (on fire trucks, hook and ladder) and similar specialized applicationsl. the three major classes of Movable Bridge are of course, Swing, (the oldest), Bascule (Tiltin" Milton) and vertical Lift.
At a controlled airport any vehicle (another plane, car, fuel truck, snow plow, mower, or even a unicycle) may be operated in the path of a taxing aircraft, but they must have a clearance to do so from ground control. At an uncontrolled airport the aircraft should have the right of way but so does a pedestrian at a cross walk, so use your head.
One where people walk away from it.
When the aircraft levels out horizontally, or if its a sea vessel again when the walking surface is horizontal.. Walking in a moving tractor trailer would be dangerous if theres no force holding the person when the vehicle breaks fast. What is OK?
