During World War I, the United States residents were against involvement in a war they considered to be European. People were concerned with what benefited this country only, and were not happy about sending their sons off to fight and die for the grievances of others. Those who were particularly nationalist were Irish and German immigrants who knew first hand about costly European wars.
the answer to that question is that nationalism was like pampering a little puppy to much and the puppy being spoiled, but in this case instead of the puppy it would be a country and the ruler (owner) of the country would be pampering it and spoiling it to much. this may cause other countries to be angry and want to start war with that country who is spoiled to prove to them that pmpering adn spoiling your bby does not make it stronger it make it weaker in war, but stronger in selfishness. this is just really my opinion with this answer... it may be right, but it also may be wrong. whenever you think of nationalism think of its definition... its true definition is; extreme love and adortion of ones country that leads to contempt of other nations.

Nationalism was pride in ones country and a form of an identity based on nation. It also meant something meaningful to the person.
