I had the same problem on my '95. First check the fuses under the hood. Second, check the switch on the steering column (Google "how to check pathfinder headlight switch). Third. Ensure the Black wire from the headlight bulb connector is a solid ground (mine wasn't...) and I had to cut the wire and make a new ground connection. Apparently the ground goes to the chassis, and in my case, that chassis point was rusty...

Headlight fuses for a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder are located in the engine compartment on the passenger side right behind the battery. You should be able to see and take the cover off a rectangular plastic box about 2" by 5" long. The two 15A headlight fuses are marked. Joe.

The 1st generation Nissan Pathfinder, 1987 - 1995 had a torsion bar suspension on the front end of the vehicle. There is a driver's side and passenger's side torsion bar and they are not interchangeable. 1996 - 2009 models do not use a torsion bar.
