How do you get a 4runner out of park?

Shifter is blocked by a device attached to the brake pedal. If the brake pedal is not depressed it wont allow you to change out of park. There should also be a bypass button next to the shifter, in case the cable to the pedal breaks.

How do you release the shifter from park on a 1993 gmc van?

This GMC I believe that it have a release cable under the dash. Where the brake pedal attach with it. Every time you insert the key in ignition and turn over, you still have to press the brake pedal that help release the cable to free the shifter. The cable the run from brake pedal to shifter could be about foot long or 3 feet long. It depend on the kind of shifter your car have. When the brake is press, it pull the cable to release the locking device on the shifter so you can shift it. If it does not release, check the cable on the brake pedal and the shifter for damage or defect. If it still good, check the primary cable that runs from ignition switch to brake pedal that help release the secondary cable which I explained above. More likely, you may need a whole steering column. Does it help? Would you please be kind for a tips. The clutch pedal stays down after depressing it you have to use your foot to pull it back up you have adjusted the clutch cable with no luck The car is a 1998 Nissan 200SX SE?

Check for a spring at the very top of the pedal itself, running from the pedal above the pivot point to the firewall. The spring is likely to have come loose and be attached at one end or the other but not both.

How do you make clutch adjustments on a Nissan 200sx?

the clutch system on an early 200sx is hydraulic (NON ADJUSTABLE). 1994 and up is a cable...adjust the release lever on the trans 1/8" to 5/32", by loosening the lock nut (12mm wrench) and turning the plastic wheel with your fingers, tighten lock nut recheck...pedal height should equal that of the brake and is adjusted on the pedal assembly (14mm wrench) bolt with lock nut. this should give you pedal freeplay of 1/2" to 3/4"...all else being in proper repair...disc not worn, cable not bad ect.

Why will your friends 2002 Chevy impala not go into gear?

If it is stuck in park it is most likely the brake lock switch on most cars there's a cable and switch at the shifter from the brake pedal when you push on the brake pedal the switch pulls out and unlocks the shifter so you can shift the car out of park. Some cars have a little slot by the shifter where you can insert a key to unlock the shifter.

How do you know what is broken on a 94 Nissan Sentra with cable clutch when the clutch won't disengage gears and there is no tension on clutch pedal and heard a loud snap before tension lost?

It sounds like it is the clutch cable. I have a 94 Nissan Sentra and the clutch cable just broke. I have replaced one on an older Nissan, but it is still difficult for me to do on the 94. It is really hard to get the broken cable out.

What sensor would cause your 1994 SHO not t come out of park?

Check the switch on the brake pedal that allows the transmission shifter to move into gear. If this switch/cable is broken the shifter doesn't know the brake is pressed so it will not allow shifter to move. It is a safety feature... a good one too.

Why won't brake lights work and car will not go in gear?

The switch on the brake pedal is disconnected or defective. The shifter interlock has to get a signal from the switch to know the pedal is being pressed before it will release the shifter.
