A woman in your apartment building owns a new model Ford Explorer and revvs the engine for 5 minutes every morning did somebody tell her this was good to do or is it bad?

With a new engine (less than 1,000 miles) you only have to avoid running the motor at a constant speed for a prolonged period of time. There is no "break-in" or excess idling or revving required. She may not damage the engine by running it for 5 minutes every day like this, but she's wasting fuel and wearing the motor down i might add.

hey, get something called *fuel injector cleaner* im guessing its got a carby. so get your fuel injector cleaner possibly 2 bottles (around 5 bux a bottle) start car. get someone to sit inside and rev it from 1000rpm - anywhere high. when the revvs go up. pour in some injector cleaner. you will get LOTS of smoke from your exhaust. this is normal. to get to your carby. follow your air cleaner to the engine that is your carby. after that let sit idle for a 2 mins. and drive away. 90 % of the time this will fix the problem.

Most auto parts centers will have an OBI jumper, but one can be created from a piece of wire with both ends stripped 1/4". Stop in at your local AutoZone if you don't have a repair manual and look into their HANES manuals to find out where the OBI connector is, and how to jump it to get the codes.What you will find after jumping the OBI connector and turning the key to ON, will be a sequence of lights that will flash on the dash. Don not* use a highly flammable liquid like starting fluid when doing this.Check grounds on the ECM and if the vehicle is rusted badly, consider that rusty body panels will hamper conductivity and cause intermittent problems when you hit bumps.Get the codes. I came back on this cause it dawned on me that this would be a Z24 engine. That would mean that there are many* vacuum lines that are crucial to correct emissions and the firing of the exhaust side spark plugs. The exhaust side spark plugs are controlled by vacuum solenoids that are located on the passenger side (LHD) inner fender. IIRC, the intake plugs are on the outside circumference of the distributor cap and the exhaust plugs are on the inside circumference of the distributor cap. Make sure that all plug wires from one side are running to the same place on the distributor cap (e.g., inside or outside).This engine family utilizes 8 plugs for efficient burning of raw fuel when the engine is under load. If you were climbing a hill, you would be giving the engine more gas by stepping harder on the gas pedal. this unburnt fuel (because the engine is getting a request for more fuel, but isn't spinning any faster) is burned by the second set of plugs and sent back to the intake through EGR.As for correct vamping of the vacuum lines and such, you will find the best diagrams in a Mitchell Service Manual for your vehicle... or in my second choice, a Motor manual.If you were stepping into the "GO" pedal when it ran rich, your problem might just be bad plugs on the exhaust side or the vacuum lines running to/from the vacuum solenoids.Check your plugs too and try a set of Platinums. If Bosch Platinums are used, DO NOT attempt to gap them, they will be gapped correctly from the factory. Attempting to gap them can crack the porcelain and cause the Platinum element to break off and fall in by the valve and valve seat, damaging the head if it gets trapped between the two.


Why does your vw golf 1800 1989 v8 gti smoke at high revvs?

Hey , All golf or rabbit (whatever yours is) vws do this after a certain point. depending on the cars history and condition it could not ever do it or it could start the day after you pull off the lot. THIS IS NOT A BAD THING! do not mistake this for me saying they are bad cars i own a 96 gti i love them. The problems come from two ares. If you have a 1.8 T you could be sucking oil. if that is happening getting a tune up could solve the problem. If you have a 1.8 you are underpowered most likely. this is just engine strain that is why the newer golfs have the 2.0. if this is the case i cant help too much other than to say that the 2.0 has some similar problems and check these before calling it quits. the 2.0 has a nasty habit of blowing head gaskets if modified. Solution= DONT MODIFY, also the valves in the car are easily off set in high stress situations (don't haul things behind your golf) if the valve has mis-seated it is an easy fix at any shop. Last (THIS IS PROBABLY YOUR PROBLEM) if you notice small amounts of smoke on startup and the high revs it is definat that the piston rings have worn. again this is an easy fix but it is annoying. Unfortunatly all three of these have similar symptoms. how to tell= open your oil cap and check the oil if it looks like Bailys or chocolate milk you blew the head gasket and possibly cracked the head/block. if it looks normal close it and start the car once running for a few minutes open the oil cap again (while running)* if it is smoking the there is more probability of a valve leak. if it is not smoking out of the oil cap then have somone else start the car and watch for smoke on startup. this will show if the rings are bad. Good luck and enjoy... * on some vws if the oil cap is taken off or not all the way on then the engine will not run due to the high compression. DONT PANIC if when you take the oil cap off the car dies. It will not harm the car and if you watch in the shops this is a standard check. it just depends on your car. The smoke is all that you are looking for.

NO this is not normal. Your Jeep is equipped with the 42RLE 4-speed automatic transmission. Usually, when you 'put the pedal to the metal', depending on what speed you are traveling at, the transmission should kick down one or two gears. If it is dropping into neutral on its own, I would say check the fluid level. The specified fluid change interval for the '03 automatic transmission is every 30,000 miles. I also have to say that the Chrysler transmissions are extremely sensitive to the type of fluid used in them. ATF+4 is the ONLY fluid that should be used, nothing else. This is also known as "Type 7176 fluid". Make absolutely sure that yourself or any shop that services it puts that fluid in, otherwise your transmission will NOT like it. In addition, the 42RLE is controlled by a computer. The dealer can scan the computer for clutch volume indexes and any trouble codes stored or present. If you are within the 7-year/70,000mile powertrain warranty, they should do it for free. If they do not, take it to another dealer. Do not let them try and bend you over with diagnostic fees and that crap. Hope that helps you. Good luck with it.
