Nissan's "check engine soon" light is the Emissions System. If the light comes on, make sure you tighten your gas cap. Emissions residue can also build up on the inside of the fuel neck. Wipe clean and reapply the gas cap. This should make the light turn off within 20 miles or so. If the light doesn't turn off, you may need to take it in to the dealer for a diagnostics check to make sure you do not have a leak causing emissions to escape. Also, disconnecting your battery for about 30 minutes will reset the emissions control. The 'check engine light' is really more of a nuisance than anything else.
