My truck had this problem. The headlight switch was shorted out in such a way that the dash lights would not come on, and the over head light would not go off. I also have a bad ground somewhere under the dash. Changing the switch fixed the dash lights, but my gauges still go crazy when I use my turn signals. The wiring in these trucks was not designed very well to start with. Whenever my 300,000 mile 350 finally gives up, I'll pull the dashboard and rewire everything so it's nice and simple. Even though these trucks have problems, they're much more reliable than anything that's come out since.
