Check the fuse in the fuse box; Also check to see if your speedometer cable snapped, this will cause the odometer to stop working as well
If your speedometer is still working and just the odometer has stopped, the most likely problem is a little plastic drive gear in the instrument cluster. This is the most common problem with many makes of cars. If you are handy you can buy a replacement gear on Ebay for a few dollars and replace it yourself. Otherwise take the vehicle to an Instrument Repair shop. This problem usually occurs if you reset your odometer while travelling, it breaks a tooth off the little gear.
There isn't a separate computer for just the odometer. Attached to the firewall behind the coolant bottle is the main computer. There are 3 cables that plug into the front of the computer and the odometer is in there. When you buy a new or refurbished computer for your jeep you need the vin number and the odometer reading so the computer can be programmed for your jeep. Meaning the odometer reading is in the main computer
I just had this same problem with my 1998 VW Jetta. My parking brake light came on one day, but only half illuminated. Shortly after my windshield wipers and headlights stopped working. My radio works but the fans don't work either. I just found a thread which seems to point the problem at the ignition switch: http://car.justanswer.com/volkswagen/6uht-1998-volkswagen-jetta-headlights
no just very unpopular so they stopped their show and dont play music because the would just be wasting their time and money
my Memorex Karaoke machine works but it starts to spin the cds then it stops spining
The Jackson 5 never stopped just until they grew up into adults that's when they stopped
If both odometer and speedometer are not working I would blame the vehicle speed sensor. If just the odometer isn't working the gauge cluster assembly needs to be replaced with a reconditioned one.
If the speedo stops also, it is the speed sensor. If just the odometer, take it to a speedo shop.
This happend on one of my cares. It was just a cable that needed to be changed under the hood. I am sure anyone at napa or autozone can help you out.
Our odometer/tripmeter also just stopped working at 220,000 miles. This is an integral part of the speedometer assembly, and cannot be repaired. The entire speedometer must be replaced.
mine stopped aswell :(
I have had this issue with my old 92, if the radio stopped working too, it is because of a fuse. on the few I have worked on it seemed to be a common theme. just keep a stock of fuses unless you want to rewire the fusebox.
gauge wiring may not be hooked up if they have never worked or if they have and just stopped working maybe a fuse i would check all your fuses
If your speedometer has stopped working just put the key in the off position and hold down the trip odometer button until you see some codes come on the odometer. That should reset your speedometer. I could not figure out which fuse was for the speedometer and some one told me about this and it worked right away.
Heater has just stoped working no power to control panel
It depends on whether or not the car has a digital readout. If it has a digital display, chances are it would be a wiring problem, somewhere right behind the odometer. If it has an analog display, since the spedometer still works, chances are the odometer itself (the display) has gone bad--like a little gear in there or something. This is one of the simplest odometer problems to fix; just replace the display piece. If the spedometer wasn't working it would be a whole different story--probably a faulty cable.
i just changed the speed sensor on my 91 and it took care of that same problem.
Funny thing about saturns, they don't have an "odometer cable" They use a magnetic pickup assembly, located in the rear of the transmission, just above the passanger side axle output. this sensor is connected directly to the engine computer. from the computer the signal then goes to your instrument panel and is converted into electricity to drive a small motor to turn the digits which you can see. if the odometer has stopped working, replace the speed sensor on the transmission, or your instrument panel has failed.
