This a common problem on Rangers and is often caused by a faulty oil pressure sending switch. On a 3.0L, it is located behind the PS cylinder head in the back of the block. Hard to see.

The problem is that you won't know FOR SURE until you change it. Get a new one in there right away - you wouldn't want to find out that you have a REAL oil pressure problem by grenading the engine.

I found it at the back, passenger side of the block, accessed from the top, not the bottom of the engine. You can't see it from below.

From the top center of the engine, look at about the midpoint of the engine at the very back. Nearest thing as you go further back is the firewall. There are 2 switches back there that screw into the block. The OPSU is the one with a single (green and white stripe) wire. The other switch has a bundle of wires to it. You have to be on top of the engine, physically, looking straight down to see it.
