On a 1996 jeep Cherokee what do you need to take off to replace the water pump?
fisrt start withe the serpentine belt. loosen that with the p/s pulley. Drain the cooling system. Then take off the hose that runs from the pump to the radiator. Now remove w/p pulley by removing the 4 bolts that hold it on. Next you will have to remove the bolts that hold the w/p in place which are visible upon removal of the pulley. Remove pump and reverse to replace.
P.S. It will get a little wet when doing this. also this is a great opportunity to replace any cooling system components (i.e. thermostat, hoses, reservoir...)
