Instrument cluster on a 95 F-150 is all electronic. Thus needing power to operate.
Well, not exactly. If the rest of the cluster gauges and lights are working, the cluster is working. Seems obvious, but I understand your question. This may or may not indicate that more cluster failure is imminent. There have been several questions about the cluster, many of them asking specifically about the odometer light. The generally accepted common knowledge is that the entire cluster has to be replaced when one facet of it fails. However, one fellow posted that the odometer light can be removed (after removing the cluster) and a new one soldered in it's place as a fix. I can't attest to how accurate this info is though. Someone else posted that the odometer can be read with the help of a flashlight. Not a very comforting work around, but if you need to read the OD badly enough, what the heck?!
I assume the problem you are having is that the instrument cluster doesn't fit past the stearing wheel. The cluster has to be pulled out the front of the dash. First remove the bezel around the front of the cluster and then the 2 large bolts that hold up the steering colum must be removed and you can lower the wheel down onto the seat and pull the instrument cluster out towards the drivers seat. Another tip is that odometer is digital and it is common for it to look shattered or black if you are removing the factory black faces to install white ones. Don't panic when you plug the gauge back in it will return to normal.
YOU CANT BUY A BULB CALL YOU PONTIAC DEALER AND HE WILL EXPLAIN WHAT HAS TO BE DONE The entire cluster has to be replaced. This has happened to me 2 times now. The part is about $300 and the dealer HAS to install it. It takes about 3 hours to be done. This is something that you have to do if you ever want to sell the car, since you have to have the mileage. I have had the bulb on the odometer out for two years now. you can still read the mileage by pointing a flashlight to the odometer, from the side. The Cluster DOES NOT have to be replaced, i fixed mine for less then $1. And if your dealer charged you 3 hours labour they ripped you off, it takes about 30 minutes to replace the cluster. Remove your top dash pad (remove airbag fuse first), remove your cluster, take off the back cover (6 screws) and then locate the odometer bulb, turn and remove it, then solder a small 12v bulb from your local auto parts store in its place, very simple and a hell of alot cheaper All I did was remove the screws for the dash removed the dash then removed the cluster and the 6 screws. I then went to my local scrap yard did the same thing to a scraped sunfire there. They did not charge me for the bulb since I removed it my self. Only a Sucker would bring it to a dealership. I'm a girl and I had no problem took me less than an hour! Question for Last answer: WHAT IS THE PART NUMBER TO THE BULB?
They mount to the back of the dash cluster. The bulbs are exposed when the panel is removed.
There are many bulbs in the gauge cluster. The gauge cluster must be removed to gain access to them.
REMOVE CLUSTER AND REMOVED 2 SCREWS ON BACKOF CLUSTER LABELED "KSW" AND INSTALL IN OTHER HOLES LABELED KSW COVERED WITH TAPE REMOVE CLUSTER AND REMOVED 2 SCREWS ON BACKOF CLUSTER LABELED "KSW" AND INSTALL IN OTHER HOLES LABELED KSW COVERED WITH TAPE
You have to completely remove the instrument cluster and the bulbs are removed by turning the gray colored plastic "pins"located on the back side of the cluster counter-clockwise then the bulb pulls out of the holder and the new bulb just pushes back in.The lens on cluster does not have to be removed.
Volkswagen does not want you taking labor fees away from it's dealers so they removed the dipstick. You need a scantool to properly top off the atf.
The most common reason for a 1996 Chrysler Cirrus odometer and RPM gauge to stop working is a fuse. If the fuse is removed from the dash and replaced, often times the odometer and RPM gauge will begin working.
What kind of vehicle? The light is most likely behind the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster would have to be removed to gain acces to the bulb.
The instrument cluster needs to be removed to get at the bulbs.
