When you hit the brake hard 2 times in less than 3-4 seconds it is normal, because the pump doesn't have enough time to build up pressure.

If there are at least 3-4 seconds between the first and the second pressing of the pedal and you still have this problem, may be the pump isn't working well.

Q: Once you started the car the first time you brake you would have to rarely touch the brake to stop then the second time you brake you would have to press really hard what's wrong?
