How did the Romans choose emperors?

First of all, bear in mind that the Romans did not choose their emperors-- it was not an elected office. Ideally, an emperor would name someone as his heir in his will and that person would become the new emperor once the old one died (or was killed). However in reality, many emperors did not have valid wills or were assassinated. In cases such a these, the man who had the strongest backing would take the throne. The senate would give its rubber stamp approval and Rome would have a new emperor--at least until the next round of intrigue.First of all, bear in mind that the Romans did not choose their emperors-- it was not an elected office. Is it true the US flag is considered a living thing because it represents a living country?

It can be considered anything. It can also represent patriotism to the extreme. In order to be alive, it must be capable of replicating itself. Flags are not alive. The country on the other hand does grow although it can theoretically also lose population. The code says it is alive, but biologically it cannot be. Figuratively it can be if congress wills it, which it has. But just as a corporation is not alive, congress also says a corporation is a person and the flag is alive. Are they? NO....

Should inheritance be divided equally to children that do not treat parents the same?

Parents can divide their property any way they wish when they draft a will. They are under no obligation, legal or otherwise, to make equal distributions to their children. In many cases there is a child who provides more comfort and assistance to the parents. Parents can reward that child by giving them a larger share of the estate. Parents can also take into consideration the needs of their children. They can give more to their children who need more. The important thing to remember is that the parents can decide what to do with their property. On the other hand, if the parents fail to draft wills then the state will divide the property according to the state laws of intestacy. In that case, the children will all take an equal share. You can check the laws in your state at the related question link.
