The data link layer is responsible for the moving of the frames from one hop to another and the delivery of packets within the same network. But when there is the need to send the packets form one network to another then the network layer comes into play and with the help of logical addess being provided by the network later as well as with the help of routers or switches the packets are being reached to the desired destination. Network layer
Network interface
The network layer is the layer that is responsible for routing packets on the network. This is the layer in which Internet protocol operates. In the seven layer OSI model, the network layer is the third layer from the bottom.
TCP operates at Layer 4 which is Transport of the OSI Model!
The session layer (layer 5)
There is a good descrition of the network layer and TCP in the related link. NO. In general TCP and UDP are transport protocols that operates in Layer 4 Transport Layer
TELNET
Routers and layer 3 switches work at Layer 3 of OSI model.
IP operates at layer 3, this is the NETWORK LAYER in the OSI Model. Network+ Guide to Networks Fifth Edition Ch02, pg56, Figure 2-7
Router works in Network Layer of OSI model
Physical and Data-link layers.Physical being layer 1 and Data-link being layer 2.
