If parking lights stay on after the car is turned off on a 2001 Hyundai Elantra than the brake switch is malfunctioning. The brake switch turns off when pressed in and if it does not work the lights of the vehicle will stay on.
Check fuses in box under dash on left of steering column
If you do not have your car turned on the vehicle will not shift out of park. You also have to have your foot of your brake.
You need to replace are adjust the neutral safety switch on the side of the transmission where the shift cable hooks to the transmission. I would block the wheels so it won't roll over you, and slide up under it and loosen the bolts that hold the switch and turn the switch a llittle with it in park and the key on and see if the lights go out. If they do go out then tighten it up there. Then see if it will start. If not then replace switch.
You either got a bad new Switch or more likely you have a power supply problem to the park side of the switch.
It only allows starting in park and neutral, and runs the reverse lights.
mine did same, 95 elantra. it was fuse for radio in fuse box. hope that helps.
I had the same problem and after a bit of searching, it ended up being the Park fuse. Fuse Number 4 on my 2001 Dodge Dakota.
check fuses first .
Engaging your parking brake should turn off the daytime running lights
alternater problem i found on my car
there are 5745 lights
YES, but once it gets dark you might need more than your park lights.
